Oil Pump: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove timing belt as outlined under Timing Cover, and Timing Belt & Camshaft Timing Pulley. Refer to Timing Component.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove crankshaft timing gear pulley.
5. Remove oil pan as outlined under Oil Pan, Replace.
6. Remove oil pump bolts and oil pump assembly.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Using feeler gauge, measure driven gear to housing clearance, Fig. 24 . If clearance is greater than .0078 inch, replace the oil pump.
b. Using feeler gauge, measure drive gear to driven gear clearance, Fig. 25 . If clearance is greater than .0012 inch, replace the gear set.
c. Using feeler gauge, measure oil pump body to gear clearance, Fig. 26 . If clearance is greater than .004 inch replace the oil pump.
