1. Remove negative battery cable.

TP Sensor:






2. Disconnect throttle position sensor (TPS) electrical connector.

3. Loosen TPS attaching screws.

Feeler Gauge Installation:






4. Insert feeler gage between throttle stop screw and throttle lever.

Throttle Opener:






5. Also disconnect throttle opener vacuum hose and apply vacuum to throttle opener (California emissions).

6. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between the terminals of the TPS according to specification in images above.

7. Rotate the TPS if necessary to adjust.

8. Tighten the TPS mounting screws.

9. Recheck the TPS continuity.

10. Reconnect TPS electrical connector.

11. Reconnect throttle opener vacuum hose and apply vacuum to throttle opener (California emissions).




NOTE: On vehicle with California Emissions perform the throttle opener adjustment below.

1. Start engine and run until normal operating temperature is attained.

Tachometer Installation:






2. Connect a tachometer between battery negative and DTC connector "IG-".

Throttle Opener:






3. Disconnect throttle opener hose and plug.

4. Raise engine speed to 2500 rpm and hold.

5. Release the throttle lever and make sure that the throttle opener is set and the engine speed is 1300 to 1500 rpm while the radiator fan motor is off. Replace the throttle opener if the throttle opener is not set.

Throttle Opener Adjustment:






6. Adjust throttle opener setting by turning the adjusting screw clockwise to increase engine speed and counterclockwise to decrease engine speed.

7. Reconnect vacuum hose to throttle opener and disconnect tachometer.
