Troubleshooting Hints

PROCEDURE
1. Check the hydrometer eye that is built into the Battery before troubleshooting the Starter or Charging System.
^ Green Eye - Battery is charged.
^ Dark Eye - Battery is discharged.
^ Clear or Yellow Eye - Battery fluid is low, replace Battery.

2. Check Battery for overcharge condition such as spewing of electrolyte or yellowing of Battery case.
3. Check that G100, G101, G105, and G204 are clean and tight.
4. Check Fusible Link A for continuity.
5. Check ALT Fusible Link with a fuse tester.
6. Check AM1 Fusible Link with a fuse tester.
7. Check IGN Fuse with a fuse tester.
8. Check Gauge fuse with fuse tester.
9. Check ALT-S Fuse with a fuse tester.
10. Check for proper Generator drive belt tension.
11. Before component replacement, check for poor connections at related component and in-line harness connector terminal connections.
