Manual Transaxle Replacement









Remove or Disconnect

Tool Required:
- J28467-A Engine Support Fixture

- Install a J28467-A engine support fixture.
1. Battery hold down, battery and tray.
2. Air cleaner (ACL).
3. Backup switch electrical connector.
4. Ground strap.
5. Two actuator mounting bolts.
6. Actuator line bracket.
7. Shift cable retainers and end clips.
8. Shift cables from brackets and lay aside.
9. Left transaxle mount cover and brace.
10. Mount through bolt.
11. Two upper transaxle to engine bolts.
12. Upper starter bolt.
13. VSS electrical connector from VSS
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
14. Right and left lower stone shields.
- Drain transaxle oil.
15. Starter electrical connections.
16. Bottom starter bolt and starter.
17. Drive axles.
18. Three center crossmember-to-radiator support bolts.
19. Front and center mount bolt shields.
20. Two front mount bolts.
21. Two center mount bolts.
22. Two rear mount bolts.
23. Two center crossmember-to-main crossmember bolts.
24. Three exhaust hanger bracket nuts and exhaust hanger.
- Support main crossmember
25. Eight main crossmember-to-underbody bolts.
26. Two lower A-frame bracket-to-underbody bolts.

Caution: Lower main crossmember slowly while holding onto the center crossmember. Center crossmember will be free to fall at this time and could cause serious bodily injury.

27. Front mount through bolt and mount.
28. Front mount bracket from transaxle.
29. Center mount from transaxle with 2 bolts.
30. Inspection cover bolt.
31. Two lower transaxle bracket-to-mount bolts.
- Lower vehicle.
32. Remaining transaxle mount-to-bracket bolt.
- Lower transaxle with a J28467-A engine support fixture to gain clearance to remove the transaxle.
33. Transaxle mount.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
- Support transaxle.
34. Front and rear lower transaxle-to-engine bolts.
35. Transaxle.

Install or Connect

1. Transaxle.
2. Front and rear lower transaxle-to-engine bolts snugly.
- Remove transaxle support.
3. Starter electrical connections.
4. Lower starter bolt snugly.
- Lower vehicle.
5. Left transaxle mount upper bolt and 2 lower bolts snugly.
- Raise transaxle with a J28467-A engine support fixture.
6. Mount through bolt loosely.
- Tighten through bolt to 87 Nm (64 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten upper transaxle mount bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
7. Mount cover and bracket.
- Tighten mount cover bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
8. Two upper transaxle to engine bolts snugly.
9. Upper starter bolt snugly.
- Tighten transaxle to engine bolt to 46 Nm (34 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten upper starter bolt to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.).
10. VSS electrical connector to VSS.
- Position shift cables into brackets.
11. Cable retainers and end clips.
12. Two actuator mounting bolts snugly.
13. Actuator line bracket and bolts.
- Tighten actuator line and mounting bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
14. Ground strap.
15. Backup switch electrical connector.
16. Air cleaner (ACL).
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
- Tighten two remaining lower transaxle mount bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten remaining lower starter bolt to 39 Nm (29 ft. lbs.).
17. Center mount with 2 bolts to transaxle snugly.
18. Inspection bolt cover snugly.
- Tighten center count and inspection cover bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
19. Front mount bracket on transaxle.
20. Front mount and through bolt loosely.

Important: When installing the front mount, the weight on the mount must go toward the transaxle for proper mount alignment.

- Position center crossmember over center and rear transaxle mount studs; start 2 nuts on center mount.
21. Three center crossmember-to-radiator support bolts loosely.
22. Two front mount bolts loosely.
- Raise main crossmember into position over rear mount studs and align all underbody bolts.
23. Two rear mount nuts loosely.
24. Eight main crossmember-to-underbody bolts loosely.
25. Two lower A-frame-to-underbody bolts loosely.
26.Two center crossmember-to-main crossmember bolts loosely.
27. Exhaust hanger bracket and 3 nuts snugly.
- Tighten:
- Main crossmember-to-underbody bolts to 206 Nm (152 ft. lbs.).
- Lower A-frame-to-underbody bolts to 127 Nm (94 ft. lbs.).
- Center crossmember-to-radiator support bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
- Front, center and rear mount bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
- Exhaust hanger bracket nuts to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.).
- Front mount through bolts to 87 Nm (64 ft. lbs.).
28. Front and center mount bolt shields.
29. Drive axles.
30. Transaxle oil.
31. Right and left lower stone shields.
- Lower vehicle.
- Remove the J28467-A engine support fixture.
32. Battery, tray and hold down.
