Cruise Control: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
The cruise control system maintains a selected speed under normal driving conditions. Steep grades up or down may cause variations in the selected speeds. This cruise control system has the ability to cruise, coast, resume speed, accelerate and tap-up or tap-down.

The main system components of the cruise control system are the Cruise Control Module (CCM), the actuator, cruise control switch and Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

OPERATION
The CCM and actuator are the two main components that allow the system to control and maintain desired vehicle speed. The CCM monitors vehicle speed and provides cruise control actuator with the necessary command to maintain and change vehicle speed in response to inputs from the cruise control switch. Cruise control operation is disengaged when the CCM receives a cancel signal from the parking brake switch, stop lamp switch, brake fluid level switch, cruise control switch, Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch (automatic transaxles) or Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) interrupt switch (manual transaxles).
