Audible Warning Device: Description and Operation
CIRCUIT OPERATIONAudio Alarm Module operation is maintained by receiving voltage from two different sources and receiving a ground. The first voltage source is battery voltage. This is supplied through the DOME Fuse. The other voltage source is ignition voltage. This is supplied through the GAUGE Fuse whenever the Ignition Switch is in the "ON" or "START" positions. The Audio Alarm Module is permanently grounded through Junction Block 3 and Junction Connectors 1 and 3 to G200.
IGNITION KEY WARNING ALARM
The Ignition Key Warning Alarm (approximately two pulses per second) is activated when the following conditions are met simultaneously: Ignition Key in Ignition Switch in the "LOCK" position with the LH Front Door open. The Audio Alarm Module applies and monitors battery voltage across fixed resistors to both the Ignition Key Warning Switch and the LH Front Door Jamb Switch. When the Ignition Key is inserted into the Ignition Cylinder, the Ignition Key Warning Switch closes to ground through Junction Block 2 to G2O4; the voltage being monitored at the Audio Alarm Module drops, thus indicating that the Ignition Key is in the Ignition Cylinder.
When the LH Front Door is opened, the LH Front Door Jamb Switch closes to ground through the LH "B" pillar; the voltage being monitored at the Audio Alarm Module drops, thus indicating that the LH Front Door is open. When both of these signals are received simultaneously, the alarm sounds. The Ignition Key Warning Alarm will sound until either the Ignition Key is removed from the Ignition Cylinder, the Ignition Switch is turned to any position other than "LOCK" or if the LH Front Door is closed.
SEAT BELT WARNING ALARM
The Seat Belt Warning Alarm (approximately one pulse per second) is activated when the following conditions are met simultaneously: Ignition Switch in the "ON" position with the LH Front Seat Belt unbuckled. The Audio Alarm Module applies and monitors battery voltage across a fixed resistor to the Seat Belt Switch. When the LH Front Seat Belt is unbuckled, the voltage being monitored at the Audio Alarm Module is high, thus indicating that the LH Front Seat Belt is unbuckled. The alarm will sound for five seconds if the LH Front Seat Belt is not buckled. If at any time while the Seat Belt Warning Alarm is sounding the LH Front Seat Belt is fastened, the alarm will stop.
The Audio Alarm Module's Seat Belt Warning Alarm also incorporates an indicator within the Instrument Cluster. The Seat Belt Indicator works in conjunction with the Seat Belt Warning Alarm. The indicator is supplied ignition voltage through the Audio Alarm Module and Junction Block 3. The Audio Alarm Module controls the ground path to the indicator. When the Audio Alarm Module receives a signal indicating that the LH Front Seat Belt is unbuckled, it completes the ground path to the Seat Belt Indicator. Unlike the Seat Belt Warning Alarm, the Seat Belt Indicator will remain lit until the LH Front Seat Belt is fastened.
LIGHTS ON WARNING ALARM
The Lights ON Warning Alarm (constant tone) is activated when the following conditions are met simultaneously: Ignition Key removed from Ignition Cylinder, Light/Turn Signal Switch in PARK or HEAD and the LH Front Door open. The Audio Alarm Module applies battery voltage across a fixed resistor to the LH Front Door Jamb Switch. When the LH Front Door is opened, the LH Front Door Jamb Switch closes to ground through the LH "B" pillar. The voltage being monitored at the Audio Alarm Module drops, thus indicating that the LH Front Door is open.
The Audio Alarm Module also receives a voltage signal through the Taillamp Relay and TAIL Fuse whenever the Light/Turn Signal Switch is in the PARK or HEAD positions. When both of these signals are received simultaneously, the alarm sounds. The Lights ON Warning Alarm will sound until either the Light/ Turn Signal Switch is turned to "OFF," the Ignition Key is inserted into the Ignition Cylinder or if the LH Front Door is closed. When the following conditions are met the Ignition Key Warning Alarm will override the Lights ON Warning Alarm: Light/Turn Signal Switch in PARK or HEAD with the LH Front Door open and the Ignition Switch in the "LOCK" position with the Ignition Key in the Ignition Cylinder. If the Ignition Key is removed when these conditions are met the Lights ON Warning Alarm will sound.
