Knee Diverter: Service and Repair
WARNING: The diagnostic energy reserve module (DERM) can maintain enough voltage to cause air bag deployment for up to ten minutes after the ignition switch is turned off and the battery is disconnected. Servicing the SIR system during this period may result in accidental deployment and personal injury.1. Disarm system as described in Air Bag System Disarming & Arming.
2. Remove retaining clips and left front sill plate.
3. Loosen two screws and remove hood latch release handle from knee bolster.
4. Remove two bolt covers from front of knee bolster.
5. Remove four bolts and knee bolster from instrument panel, disconnecting lap cooler air outlet duct from lap cooler air duct.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. After completing installation, rearm system as described in Air Bag System Disarming & Arming.
b. Turn ignition switch to On position and verify that the AIR BAG or SIR warning lamp flashes seven to nine times and then turns off. If lamp does not respond as specified, refer to System Diagnosis
