Manual Steering Gear
This
steering system converts rotary motion to linear motion as follows; when the
steering wheel is turned, rotary motion is transferred to the
steering shaft, shaft joint and rack pinion. The pinion teeth mesh with teeth on the rack and the rotary motion is transferred to the rack and changed to linear motion. The linear force is then transmitted through the
tie rods and to the steering knuckles which steer the front
wheels.
