5TH and Reverse Gearshift Cam

The 5th and reverse gearshift cam and return spring, in operation with the gearshift interlock plate, prevents the gearshift control lever from being shifted from 5th gear directly to reverse. When the gearshift control lever is shifted to 5th gear, the 5th and reverse gearshift cam turns clockwise with the gearshift and select shaft. The cam guide retune spring pushes the 5th and reverse gearshift cam up where it meets the 5th to reverse interlock guide bolt and cannot turn any further. With the 5th and reverse gearshift cam unable to turn, a 5th to reverse gear shift is no longer possible.

Shifting from 5th gear to neutral is possible with a-reverse gear shift still canceled. However, when the gearshift and select shaft is moved to the neutral position between 3rd and 4th gears, the 5th and reverse gearshift cam is canceled. Moving the gearshift control lever to the position between 5th and reverse causes the gearshift and select shaft to move up while the 5th and reverse gearshift cam is held stationary by the 5th and reverse interlock guide bolt. The gearshift and select lever can now move to the reverse position without interference from the 5th and reverse gearshift cam.
