Oil Pump Replacement

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. Timing belt and belt tensioner.
3. Oil pan and oil pump screen.
4. Unclip crankshaft position sensor electrical connector from guide tube.
5. One bolt and guide tube with oil level indicator from oil pump.
6. Guide tube O-ring from oil pump.





7. Seven bolts and oil pump, with gasket, from cylinder block. If necessary, tap on back side of oil pump body with a plastic or rubber-faced hammer to free it from the cylinder block.
8. Oil seal from oil pump.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

- Tool Required - J 35403 Oil Pump Seal Installer, or equivalent.

1. Apply clean oil to new oil seal.
2. New oil seal to oil pump using a oil pump seal installer, being careful to install oil seal straight.
3. Coat the inside of the new oil seal with wheel bearing lubricant GM P/N 1051344, or equivalent.





CAUTION: Oil pump bolts are two lengths. Make sure two long bolts are installed in correct locations, to ensure correct mounting and prevent leaks.

4. New gasket to cylinder block and install oil pump to crankshaft, engaging spline teeth of oil pump drive rotor with the large teeth of the crankshaft; secure with seven bolts. Tighten oil pump bolts to 21 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).
5. New guide tube O-ring to oil pump.
6. Guide tube and oil level indicator to oil pump; secure with one bolt. Tighten guide tube bolt to 9.5 Nm (84 inch lbs.).
7. Clip crankshaft position sensor electrical connector onto guide tube.
8. Oil pan and oil pump screen.
9. Timing belt and belt tensioner.
10. Negative (-) battery cable.
