Compressor HVAC: Testing and Inspection

Resonant compressor noises are not cause for alarm; however, irregular noise or rattles may indicate broken parts or excessive wear.

Excessive noise coming from inside the compressor could be related to a defective piston shoe, bearing, cylinder and/or shaft. In such cases, replace the compressor assembly.

Excessive noise coming from the magnetic clutch face area could be related to a magnetic clutch or defective bearing. Replace the magnetic clutch if noise comes from the clutch; otherwise, replace the compressor assembly.
