System Performance Test
Tools Required:
J 39183-C R-134a Manifold Gage Set
J 6742-03 Thermometer Dial
IMPORTANT: Outside air temperature must be above 16°C (60°F) before proceeding with this test.
1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK.
2. Apply parking brake.
3. Connect J 39183-C manifold gage set Hi side (red) and Low side (blue) hoses to their respective service ports on the vehicle.
4. Place an auxiliary fan in front of the vehicle.
5. Close both left and right instrument panel ventilation outlets.
6. Set air mode to VENT.
7. Set fresh/recir to FRESH.
8. Set temperature control to full COLD.
9. Start engine.
10. Set blower speed to HI.
11. Press A/C switch to ON.
12. Place J 6742-03 thermometer dial probe through one of the center instrument panel ventilation outlets.
13. Close all doors and windows.
14. With the help of an assistant, increase engine speed to 2000 rpm.
15. Monitor and record Hi and Low refrigerant pressures for one minute.
16. Monitor and record outlet air temperature.
17. Engine speed back to idle.
18. Turn blower speed selector to OFF.
19. Turn ignition switch to LOCK.
20. Remove thermometer.
21. Disconnect manifold gage set.
Evaluation
Compare recorded Hi and Low refrigerant system pressures, and outlet air temperature with the A/C System Performance Specifications table. If recorded values are not within specifications, refer to A/C System Refrigerant Diagnosis table for further diagnosis. System Diagnosis - Refrigeration
