General Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe fuel supply is stored in the fuel tank. An electric fuel pump, attached to the fuel sender assembly, pumps fuel through an in-line fuel filter to the fuel rail and fuel injectors. The pump is designed to provide fuel at a pressure above the regulated pressure needed by the fuel Injectors. A pressure regulator keeps fuel available to the injectors at a regulated pressure. Unused fuel is returned to the fuel tank by a separate hose and pipe.
FUEL REQUIREMENTS
This vehicle's engine is designed to use only unleaded fuel, which must be used for proper emission control system operation. Using unleaded fuel will also decrease spark plug fouling and extend engine oil life. The damage that leaded fuel causes can result in the loss of the emission control system and its warranty coverage.
EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS
This vehicle is also equipped with an Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system that minimizes the escape of fuel vapors to the atmosphere. For more information on this system, refer to Emission Control Systems / Evaporative Emissions System.
