Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

WARNING: Relief fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel System Pressure Release.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.
^ Loosen the air cleaner (ACL) hose clamp bolt.

2. Disconnect the tour cap clips from ACL.
3. Disconnect the ACL hose and cap from engine compartment.
4. Disconnect the two Evaporative Emission (EVAP) hoses from EVAP canister.

5. Remove the one bolt and the EVAP canister from the EVAP canister bracket.

6. Remove the one bolt and fuel feed outlet hose from the top of fuel filter.
7. Remove two bolts and fuel filter from fuel filter bracket.
8. Remove one nut and fuel feed inlet pipe from bottom of fuel filter.



INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the fuel filter to fuel filter bracket; secure with two bolts.
TIGHTEN
^ Fuel filter bracket bolts to 4.9 Nm (43 lb. in.).
2. Disconnect the fuel feed inlet pipe to bottom to fuel filter; secure with one nut.
TIGHTEN
^ Fuel feed inlet pipe nut to 30 Nm (22 lb. ft.).
^ Insert new gaskets onto fuel feed outlet hose-to-pipe connection.
3. Connect the fuel feed outlet hose to top of fuel filter; secure with one bolt.
TIGHTEN
^ Fuel feed outlet hose bolt to 29 Nm (21 lb. ft.).
4. Install the EVAP canister to the EVAP canister bracket; secure with one bolt.
TIGHTEN
^ Fuel feed outlet hose bolt to 29 Nm (21 lb. ft.).
5. Connect the two EVAP hoses to the EVAP canister; secure with one clamp.
6. Connect the ACL hose and cap to engine compartment; secure with four clips.
7. Connect the IAT sensor electrical connector.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
TIGHTEN
^ Negative (-) battery cable-to-negative (-) battery terminal retainer to 15 Nm (11 lb. ft.).
^ Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and momentarily connect a jumper between DLC terminals +B and Fp to pressurize the fuel system. Check for any fuel leaks.
