Ignition Timing: Adjustments
Checking Ignition Timing:

^ J 34186 Timing Light
1. Start and run the engine until normal operating temperature has been attained.
2. Turn all the electrical accessories off.
3. Install a scan tool.
4. Monitor the engine RPM parameter.
5. Check that the idle speed is 700 +/- 50 RPM with transaxle in neutral.
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK and connect the pickup lead of the J 34186 to the number one spark plug.
CAUTION: Use a jumper lead between the spark plug wire and the spark plug or use an inductive type pickup. Do not pierce the wire or attempt to insert a probe between the spark plug wire and boot.
7. Connect the J 34186 power leads according to the manufacturer's instructions.
8. Insert a jumper wire between the DLC (under hood) terminals E1 and TE1.
9. Start the engine and aim the J 34186 at timing mark. The notch on the crankshaft pulley should line up at 10 degrees Before Top Dead Center (BTDC) on the timing indicator at each flash of the timing light.
