General Service Precautions
CAUTION: When you are performing service on or near the SRS components or the SRS wiring, you must dIsable the SRS. Use the following procedure to temporarily dIsable the SRS. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SRS repairs. The center sensor assembly can maintain sufficient voltage to cause a deployment for up to two minutes after the ignition switch is turned to LOCK or the battery is disconnected. Many service procedures require disconnection of the IGN Fuse, CIG & RADIO Fuse and the steering column circuit from the deployment loop to avoid an accidental deployment.
Disconnecting the DERM inflator module from the deployment loop allows you to begin service immediately without waiting for the time period to expire. Refer to Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.
