Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. TP sensor electrical connector (Figure 1).
3. Two screws and TP sensor from throttle body (Figure 1).

INSTALL OR CONNECT

Tool Required J 39200 Digital Multimeter

1. TP sensor to throttle body; secure with two screws (Do not tighten fully).

^ Using J 39200 check for continuity between the terminals of the TP sensor according to the resistance table (Figure 3).

^ Tighten TP sensor attaching screws.

2. TP sensor electrical connector and throttle opener vacuum hose to throttle body.
3. Negative (-) battery cable. Tighten negative (-) battery cable-to-negative (-) battery terminal retainer to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).


ADJUST
1. Start and run engine until normal operating temperature is attained.
2. Connect a scan tool to DLC, and select engine RPM.
3. Disconnect throttle opener vacuum hose at throttle opener and plug the hose end (Figure 4).
4. Maintain engine speed at approximately 2,500 RPM.
5. Release the throttle lever and make sure that the throttle opener is set and the engine speed is 1,300 - 1,500 RPM with the radiator fan motor OFF. Replace the throttle opener if it does not set.
6. Adjust throttle opener setting speed by turning the adjusting screw clockwise to increase engine speed and counterclockwise to decrease engine speed (Figure 5).
7. Reconnect vacuum hose to throttle opener.
