Troubleshooting Hints - Starting System
PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS1. Check the hydrometer eye that is built into the Battery before troubleshooting the Starter or Charging System.
^ Green Eye - Battery is charged.
^ Dark Eye - Battery is discharged.
^ Clear or Yellow Eye - Battery fluid is low, replace Battery.
2. Check Battery for overcharge condition such as spewing of electrolyte or yellowing of the Battery case. If any of these conditions are present, refer to Battery.
3. Check that all Starter assembly connections are clean and tight.
4. Check that the Starter Relay is securely mounted into its connector in the Relay Block Cassette.
5. Check that G100, G101, G105 and G204 are clean and tight.
6. Check Fusible Link A, ALT and AMI Fusible Links for continuity.
7. Check IGN Fuse, GAUGE Fuse and ALT-S Fuse.
8. Check for proper Generator drive belt tension.
9. Before component replacement, check for poor connections at related component and in-line harness connector terminal connections.
