Checking and Adding Fluid
CAUTION:
^ If the system has been serviced, and accurate fluid level reading cannot be obtained unless air is bled from the system. The air in the fluid may cause pump cavitation noise and may cause pump damage over a period of time.
^ When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.
CHECKING AND ADDING FLUID
NOTE: Power steering fluid level is indicated by "HOT" and "COLD" level indicators on the dipstick.
1. Keep the vehicle level.
2. With the engine idling at 1,000 RPM or less, turn the steering wheel from stop to stop several times to boost fluid temperature. Fluid should be at 80°C (176°F).
3. Check for foaming or emulsification. Foaming and emulsification indicate either the existence of air in the system or that the fluid level is too low.
4. Check the fluid level in the reservoir and add fluid if necessary.
