Transaxle Shift Effort
Transaxle shift effort is controlled by the shift lever and the shift cables. If shift lever vertical freeplay is incorrect, the shift effort will be affected. Vertical freeplay should not exceed 0.15 mm (0.0059 inch). If vertical freeplay is excessive, the shifter ball seat bushing must be replaced. Refer to the SHIFT CONTROL procedure. The condition of the shift cables can also affect shift effort. These cables should allow the transaxle to shift smoothly without binding. If the shift cables are binding, they should be inspected for frays. (A damaged or bent housing can also cause the shift cables to bind.) If fraying is detected, replace the cables. Refer to SHIFT CABLES procedure.
