Cylinder Block Assembly: Testing and Inspection

INSPECT
Cylinder walls for scratches, roughness or ridges which indicate excessive wear. If cylinder bore is very rough, deeply scratched or ridged, rebore the cylinder and use 0.50 mm oversized piston. If any one of the four cylinders has to be rebored, rebore all four to the same oversize. This is necessary to keep uniformity and balance.

MEASURE

- Tool Required - J 8087 Cylinder Bore Gage, or equivalent.

- Cylinder bore inside diameter using a cylinder bore gage. Measure the diameter in both the thrust and axial directions at three different positions.
- The cylinder bore has three standard sizes. The mark is stamped on the top of the cylinder block. The standard bore markings and sizes correspond in the following manner:
- Mark 1-81.000 to 81.010 mm (3.1890 to 3.1894 inches).
- Mark 2-81.010 to 81.020 mm (3.1894 to 3.1898 inches).
- Mark 3-81.020 to 81.030 mm (3.1898 to 3.1902 inches).

CAUTION: If cylinder bore is larger than 81.23 mm (3.1980 inches), cylinders must be rebored for a 0.50 mm oversize piston. If cylinder bore diameter is greater than 81.73 mm (3.2177 inches), cylinder block must be replaced.
