Running Board Step Pad Does Not Lie Flat
SYMPTOM
On vehicles with accessory premium running boards that have a chrome edge, the plastic step pad does not lie flat.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
The running board step pad is warped.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace either the step pad or the entire running board assembly, depending on how the running board was constructed.

WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION
The normal warranty applies.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
^ These instructions show the left running board being removed. The right side is similar.
^ Replace the end caps if they are stress-whitened or damaged during the repair.
1. Remove and save the six nuts holding the running board to the brackets, then remove the running board.
2. Remove the running board end caps:
3. Starting from one side of the running board, remove the step pad by pulling it up.
NOTE:
If any of the plastic clips break off inside, stand the running board on its end and let the clips fall out.
4. Count the rectangular holes on the top of the running board.
^ If there are 23 holes, go to step 5 to replace the step pad.
^ If there are 17 holes, go to step 9 to replace the running board assembly.
Step Pad Replacement
NOTE:
If you need to replace the other side, use the same part. The number of rectangular holes will be identical.
5. Replace the step pad. Make sure all 23 clips are snapped in securely. Reinstall the end caps.

6. Align the six running board bolts with the holes in the brackets, and loosely reinstall the running board with the six flange nuts you saved. Do not tighten the flange nuts yet.
7. Center the running board between the front and rear fenderwells, then torque all the flange nuts to 27 N.m (20 lb-ft).
8. If the other step pad shows warpage, repeat steps 1-7 to replace it.
Running Board Replacement
NOTE:
If you need to replace the other side, use the same part. The number of rectangular holes will be identical.
9. Remove the six square head bolts from the grooves in the bottom of the old running board, then transfer them to the new running board.

10. Align the six running board bolts with the holes in the brackets, and loosely install the new running board with the six flange nuts. Do not tighten the flange nuts yet.
11. Center the new running board between the front and rear fenderwells, then torque all the flange nuts to 27 N.m (20 lb-ft).
12. If the other running board shows warpage, repeat step 1, then steps 9-11 to replace it.
