PROBLEM

A screeching or moaning sound as the clutch approaches full engagement.

Pressure Plate and Clutch Disc Parts Information:

CORRECTIVE ACTION

^ For '83-'85 Accord, Prelude, and 4WD Wagon: Replace the pressure plate (except on '83 Accord) and clutch disc with the following parts:

^ For '84-'85 Civic (except 4WD Wagon) up to the following engine numbers, do not replace the clutch disc and pressure plate. Instead, remove the spring washer from the end of the transmission mainshaft and replace it with an 0.8 mm shim. Do this automatically on eligible Civic transmissions you open up for any other repairs.

Transmission:

1. Drain the transmission oil.

2. Remove the transmission end cover.

3. Remove the mainshaft shim and spring washer from the end cover.

4. Discard the spring washer and replace it with an 0.8 mm shim (H/C 2112449).

5. Install the new shim and the original shim in the end cover, then reinstall the cover and torque its bolts to 9 ft.lbs

6. Refill the transmission.

^ For Civic (except 4WD Wagon): Shim, 0.8 mm thick - H/C 2112449, P/N 23927-PE6-305
