Installation Instructions Driveability Kit 1
Installation Instructions for Civic Cold Stall/Driveability Kit 1Steps 1 through 4 apply to 1.3 and 1.5 Civics.
1. Install the number 78 jet in the choke opener vacuum hose.
2. Remove hoses number 27 and 28 from the vacuum manifold at emission control box number 1. Fit a 1-1/2" length of vacuum hose on each end of the "U" tube, then fit the "U" tube and hoses on the vacuum manifold.
3. Cut vacuum hose number 2 in half and install the check valve in it.
4. Apply the new vacuum hose routing label to the underside of the hood, right on top of the old label; clean any dirt and grease off the old label first. Make sure you install the correct label (green for California cars, black for others), then destroy the remaining label.
Steps 5 through 16 apply to only the 1.5 Civic.
5. Remove the distributor cap and seal, then remove the distributor and clamp it in a vise.
6. Remove the rotor, then evenly pryoff the reluctor with two screwdrivers.
(Note which side faces up. The reluctor must be reinstalled the same way later.)
7. Remove the vacuum advance diaphragm (2 screws).
8. Remove the entire breaker plate assembly (2 screws).
9. Remove and discard the rubber cap, screws, rotor shaft, and thrust washer.
10. Align the index mark on the distributor coupling with the one on the distributor housing.
11. Install the new rotor shaft thrust washer; then, with the index marks still aligned, install the new rotor shaft so its flat side faces the same direction as the index marks.
12. Install the new rotor shaft screw and cap, the breaker plate assembly, then the vacuum advance diaphragm, using the two new screws supplied in the kit.
13. Reinstall the reluctor using the new roll pin. Be sure the gap in the roll pin faces away from the rotor shaft, and that the reluctor is installed right side up.
14. Reinstall the rotor and replace the O-ring on the bottom of the distributor housing.
15. Reinstall the distributor and set the timing (refer to the underhood label for specifications).
16. Apply the distributor label to the vacuum advance diaphragm.
