Rear Seat:

RUST STAINS ON REAR SEAT-BACK COVERPROBLEM

Rust on the backing plate inside the rear seat may cause stains on the seat-back cover/trunk floor mat.

NOTE: The 1500 "S" model has separate rear seat-back covers; the seat-backs in other hatchbacks are covered by a one piece seat-back cover/trunk floor mat.


CORRECTIVE ACTION

1. Remove and discard the stained seat-back cover/trunk floor mat.

2. Disconnect the "hog rings" holding the upholstery to the seat frame, then fold the upholstery over to fully expose the metal backing plate.

NOTE: "S" type shown.

3. Clean the rust off the backing plate using a wire brush, sandpaper and steel wool.

4. Mask off the areas next to the backing plate, then spray the entire plate with black aerosol paint.

5. When the paint has dried, remove the masking tape, re-attach the upholstery to the seat frame, and install a new seat-back cover/trunk floor mat.
