Rear View Mirror Bass Kit

A replacement kit is now available for the rear view mirror base on '84 Civics, '83-'84 Preludes, and '82-'84 Accords. This kit will update the mirror attachment to the '85 type.

INSTALLATION

1. Cut the trim piece in half at one end with side cutters, then carefully remove it from the mirror.





CAUTION:
Do not try to pry it off with a sharp object (such as a screw driver) or you may damage the frame.





2. Remove the mirror glass from the frame by gently pushing on its back side with a blunt tapered object like a dull pencil.

CAUTION:
Make sure you don't scratch the reflective coating on the back of the mirror.

3. Loosen the screw in the retainer spring strip and replace the old stem with the new one. Make sure you transfer the black plastic holder (for the vibration damper) from the old stem to the new one.





4. Set the new base in place so the holes in it line up with the holes in the stem. Then secure the base to the stem with the retainer spring washer and the lock screw. Torque the screw with a # 3 Phillips screwdriver bit and a 1/4" drive torque wrench to 70 lb.in. (8 N-m or 80 kg-cm.)

5. Reinstall the glass in the frame, then firmly snap the new trim piece into place around it. Any gap between the trim and the frame means the trim is not all the way on; push harder on the trim until it snaps into place.

6. Remove the original base from the car, then reinstall the mirror. Use the new mounting screws provided in the kit.

7. Reinstall the cover.

Each kit consists of a new stem, base, lock screw, retainer spring washer, 2 mounting screws and trim piece.

This improvement, like all repairs beyond expiration of the warranty, is eligible for goodwill consideration by your District Service Manager. You must request consideration and get the DSM's decision before doing the work.
