Stress cracks in the windshield.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Remove the damaged windshield. If the crack is on the bottom or top edge, look for protruding sheet metal. Use a hammer to tap down (away from the windshield) any protruding metal.
2. Remove the original spacers. Use alcohol to clean all traces of the spacer adhesive from the body, then install new spacers...
3. Install additional spacers, one on each side of the windshield, four inches up from the cowl. Remove the old windshield adhesive (down to the paint) where the additional spacers will be located. If paint is scraped off during the adhesive removal, be sure to prime any bare areas. Then, clean the area with alcohol and install the additional spacers.
1/8" BRAZING ROD:
4. Temporarily place the windshield in position. Measure the clearance between the back edge of the windshield and the body, all the way around. There should be approximately 3 mm (1/8 in) of clearance. You can use a 1/8 inch brazing rod, with its end bent at 90, to check this clearance.
If any spots have less than the specified clearance, remove the windshield and tap down the protruding metal with a hammer.
5. Review the Performance program on Windshield Replacement, then follow the windshield replacement procedure described in the 1984 Civic Service Manual, page 22-32.
CAUTION: Be careful during installation of the side moldings. Overtightening the side moldings could result in stress cracks.
NOTE: Use a urethane sealer for the windshield.
