Wind Noise from A-Pillar PROBLEM

Wind noise from around the right or left A-pillar while driving at highway speeds.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

1. Confirm the problem:

^ Road test the car at highway speeds.

^ If you heard the noise, apply masking tape over the gap where the door window frame meets the body.

^ Road test the car again. If the noise is gone, go on to step 2; if it's still there, look elsewhere for the cause.

Edge Of The Roof:

2. Pull the weatherstrip off the flange on the edge of the roof and A-pillar, then apply a narrow strip of duct tape to the entire length of the flange.

Strip Of Paper:

3. Reinstall the weatherstrip over the tape "shim," then test the A-pillar area for proper sealing:

^ Tear a sheet of paper into 1-inch strips, then lay the strips across the weatherstrip all the way up the A-pillar.

^ Close the door on the strips.

^ Pull out each strip of paper and note which ones come out with little or no resistance (indicating poor sealing).

4. Pull off the weatherstrip again, and add a second layer of tape to any area where the paper pulled out too easily.
