Hood Latch Recall(Supersedes Bulletin 83-039 dated Jan. 84)
PROBLEM
Production tolerance errors in the hood latch safety catch could allow accidental hood opening. If the hood is not securely latched in the fully locked position, driving at high speed or hitting a large bump could cause the hood to open without warning. If the hood opens completely, it will block the driver's vision, possibly causing the driver to lose control, and the car could crash.

Hood Latch:
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Inspect the hood latch: Open the hood, then from in front of the car, with your eyes at hood latch level, check the position of the safety catch. (Look through the top of the latch down along the car's centerline.)
Latch Clearance:
2. If the safety catch and latch have no clearance between them, or they overlap slightly, the latch is OK; go to step 4. If the safety catch and latch have any clearance at all between them, replace the latch with the updated part.
3. Check the opening and closing of the hood to make sure the latch is properly adjusted.
Recall Completion Mark:
4. Center punch a Recall Completion Mark on the firewall above the last digit of the VIN.
