Component Tests and General Diagnostics

1. Ensure proper power steering fluid level.

Power Steering Pressure Test:

2. Disconnect outlet hose from pump. Install pump joint adaptor on outlet fitting.

3. Install hose joint adaptor to outlet hose.

4. Install power steering pressure gauge between the pump and hose joint adaptors.

5. open shut off valve fully.

6. open the pressure control valve fully.

7. Start engine and allow to idle. Turn steering wheel from lock to lock several times to warm fluid.

CAUTION: Do not keep the shut off valve closed more than 5 seconds or pump could be damaged by over heating.

8. Close shut off valve. Close pressure control valve gradually until the pressure gauge needle is stable. Note pressure reading.

9. Immediately open the shut off valve fully.

Pressure Reading:
1137 - 1280 psi (7845 - 8421 kPa)

10. If pump pressure is below specification, replace or repair pump as necessary.
