Air Injection: Testing and Inspection
1. Remove air cleaner cover and filter.
2. Start engine and check for air suction (bubbling noise) from air cleaner port with engine idling. System should operate and noise should be heard.
3. If system is not operating at idle, disconnect vacuum hose from air suction valve and check for vacuum.
4. If vacuum is present, replace air suction valve. If no vacuum is present, disconnect hose No. 32 from control box at vacuum manifold and check for vacuum at manifold.
5. If no vacuum is present, check hoses for leaks and repair as needed. If hoses are satisfactory, replace air bleed valve and retest system.
6. If vacuum is available to hose No. 32, check for voltage at suction control solenoid valve.
7. If voltage is available, replace solenoid valve. If no voltage is available, check continuity of system wiring, test sensors and repair or replace as needed. If sensors and wiring are satisfactory, replace control unit and retest system.
8. Raise engine speed above 3500 RPM and check for air suction at air cleaner port. No noise should be heard.
9. If air suction system operates above 3500 RPM, check for voltage at air suction control solenoid valve.
10. If no voltage is available, replace solenoid valve. If voltage is present at solenoid valve above 3500 RPM, check for incorrect sensor inputs or defective control unit.
11. With engine running at idle, heat air bleed valve to approximately 140°F with heat gun and listen for system operation.
12. If system operation does not stop, air bleed valve is defective.
