Oxygen Sensor: Description and Operation

The oxygen sensor, located in the exhaust manifold, allows the ECU to maintain an ideal air/fuel ratio by measuring oxygen content in the exhaust gas and generating a variable voltage signal which is proportional to the oxygen content. The ECU monitors these voltage signals and computes the actual air/fuel ratio entering the engine. The ECU then adjusts injection duration in response to these signals to maintain the ideal air/fuel ratio for proper performance and emission control.
