Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

Prior to disconnecting fuel lines on models with fuel injected engines, relieve fuel system pressure as follows:
^ Disconnect battery ground cable.
^ Place shop towel over 6 mm service bolt located on top of fuel filter.
^ Slowly loosen service bolt one full turn.


WARNING: Don't smoke when working with fuel systems. Keep open flames out of work areas.

1. Lift rear of car with jack or raise car on hoist.
2. Be sure ignition switch is OFF.

Fuel Pump:

3. Remove left rear wheel.
4. Remove pump cover.
6. Remove bolts securing pump mount and remove mount complete with pump.
7. Disconnect electrical connectors and fuel lines.
8. Remove pump clamp.
9. Remove pump.
10. Remove fuel line and silencer from pump.
11. Fit new pump to mount.
12. Clean sealing surface of flared line and refit.
13. Refit fuel hose and silencer to front of pump.
14. Reconnect wiring and refit pump mount.
15. Check carefully for leaks.
