Heater Assembly - Hatchback & Sedan

Fig. 25 Heater valve cable & mounting nuts.:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Disconnect heater hoses at firewall, drain heater core, then plug core tubes.
3. Disconnect heater valve cable from heater valve and remove heater lower mounting nut, Fig. 25.
4. Remove steering wheel.
5. Remove screws securing hood opener and secure aside leaving cable connected.

6. Remove right and left instrument panel side caps, center air outlet (sedan and hatchback), and the ashtray assembly, Fig. 26.
7. Remove lower dash panel, then disconnect speedometer cable and instrument panel ground, Fig. 26.
8. Remove glove box assembly or package tray, as equipped, then disconnect antenna lead.
9. Remove heater control knobs, face plate and 3 control retaining screws.
10. Remove instrument panel mounting bolts, Fig. 26.
11. Lift up on panel and pull away from cowl to disengage guide pin, then remove instrument panel. Support instrument panel during removal so it will not fall off guide pin.
12. Remove 2 bolts securing heater housing and the housing assembly.
13. Reverse procedure to install.
