Computers and Control Systems: Description and Operation

The PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection) System is an electronically controlled injection system consisting of various components and sensors. In addition, Fuel Supply, Air Intake and Idle Control sub-systems are used to enable total electronic control of all engine operating functions.

This system supplies air during engine operation and consists of a air intake pipe, a throttle body, an electronic air control valve (EACV), a tandem control system (used only on 1.5L engines with throttle body injection), a throttle control system and the intake manifold. A resonator in the air intake pipe is also used to provide additional silencing as air is drawn into the system. The EACV mentioned above, is also part of the Idle Control System.
