Main Relay (Computer/Fuel System): Description and Operation


The main relay is located on the left side of the cowl panel. This relay is actually two separate relays in one.
On throttle body injected engines, one relay is energized whenever the ignition is On to supply battery voltage to the ECU and the second relay. The second relay is energized for approximately two seconds after the ignition is activated, and whenever the engine is running to supply voltage to the fuel pump and injectors.
On multi-point injected engines, one relay is energized whenever the ignition is On to supply battery voltage to the ECU and power to the injectors and the second relay. The second relay is energized for approximately two seconds after the ignition is activated, and whenever the engine is running to supply voltage to the fuel pump.
