Air Injection: Testing and Inspection

1. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature.
2. Remove air cleaner cover and filter.
3. Start engine and check for bubbling noise from air suction port at idle.
4. If bubbling noise id heard, disconnect No. 5 vacuum hose from air suction valve and connect a vacuum pump.
5. If there is no vacuum, replace air suction valve and repeat test.
6. If there is vacuum, refer to Fig. 88.
7. Block rear wheels and apply parking brake, then raise and support front of vehicle.
8. Place shift or selector lever in second or 2 position and accelerate above 12.5 mph, then release throttle and check for bubbling noise from air suction port.
9. If bubbling noise is not heard, disconnect No. 5 vacuum hose from air suction valve and connect vacuum pump.
10. If there is vacuum, replace air suction valve and repeat test.
11. If there is no vacuum, refer to Fig. 88.
