Heater Assembly
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Disconnect heater hoses, drain core, then plug core tubes.
3. Disconnect heater valve cable from heater valve and remove heater lower mounting nut next to water valve.
4. Remove instrument panel as follows:
a. Remove fuse panel cover, and lower trim panel from lower left dash panel, then remove lower left dash panel.
b. Open glove box and remove ashtray.
c. Remove bolts securing lower right dash panel, disconnect antenna lead and wiring for radio, glove box lamp and ashtray lamp, then remove lower right dash panel along with radio.
d. Remove heater control screws, disconnect electrical connectors and control cables, and remove control.
e. Remove nuts securing steering column, then carefully lower column.
f. Remove 4 screws securing instrument cluster bezel and the bezel.
g. Remove instrument cluster screws and pull cluster away from dash, disconnect electrical connectors and speedometer cable, then remove cluster.
h. Disconnect instrument panel harness connectors at following locations: Fuse panel, side wiring harness, instrument panel sub-harness, heater harness, interior lighting timer, chime control unit.
i. Remove 9 instrument panel mounting bolts, lift up on panel and pull away from cowl to disengage guide pin, then remove instrument panel. Support instrument panel during removal so it will not fall off guide pin.
5. Remove heater ducts.
6. Disconnect heater sub-harness from heater wire harness and vacuum hoses at tube joint.
7. Remove 2 heater mounting bolts, Fig. 27, then pull heater away from body.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
