Computers and Control Systems: Adjustments

1. Start the engine and let it warm up to normal operating temperature (cooling fan comes on).
2. Connect a tachometer.

3. Disconnect the 2P connector from the EACV.
4. Check the idle speed in the following no load conditions in which the headlights, blower fan, rear defogger, cooling fan, and air conditioner are not operating.

Idle Speed Should Be: 550 ± 50 rpm

Adjust the idle speed by turning the idle speed adjusting screw.

5. Turn the ignition switch off.
6. Reconnect the 2P connector on the EACV, then remove the HAZARD fuse, in the main fuse box, for 10 seconds to reset the ECU.
7. Restart and idle the engine in the no load condition in which the headlights, blower fan, rear defogger, cooling fan, and air conditioner are not operating for one minute, and check idle speed.

Idle Speed Should Be: 750 ± 50 rpm (A/T in "N" or "P")

8. Idle the engine for one minute with the headlights on high beam, and the rear defogger ON and check the idle speed.
If applicable, with automatic transmission models, idle the engine for one minute in gear ("D") and check idle speed.

Idle Speed Should Be: 800 ± 50 rpm

9. Idle the engine for one minute with the heater switch on high (right end position), and the air conditioner ON, then check the idle speed.

Idle Speed Should Be: 800 ± 50 rpm

10. If the idle speed is not within spec., see "DIAGNOSIS BY SYMPTOM" under "COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS".
