Computers and Control Systems: Adjustments
This procedure requires that the carburetors are properly synchronized, perform CARBURETOR SYNCHRONIZATION procedure prior to idle speed adjustment.Fig. 26 Disconnecting The Hose From The Air Control Diaphragm:
1. Disconnect and plug vacuum line #8 from the air intake control diaphragm.
2. Start engine and run until the cooling fan comes on.
Fig. 27 Checking The Fast Idle Cam And Lever:
3. Inspect fast idle lever to ensure it is not seated against fast idle cam. If lever is seated against cam, left carburetor is defective and must be replaced.
4. Connect a tachometer to engine.
Fig. 28 Throttle Stop Screw:
5. With all accessories off, check idle speed.
Expected result:
M/T 800 ± 50 rpm.
A/T 750 ± 50 rpm (in gear).
6. If idle speed is incorrect, adjust by turning the throttle stop screw.
7. If vehicle has air conditioning, turn on A/C and recheck idle speed (A/T in gear).
Expected result:
750 ± 50 rpm
Idle Speed Adjustment:
8. If required adjust by turning the A/C idle adjusting screw.
