Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Adjustments

Fig. 37 Connecting a Vacuum Pressure Gauge For Carburetor Synchronization:

1. Disconnect the red braided hose marked "purge" from the cannister and connect a vacuum/pressure gauge to the hose.
2. Connect a tachometer, start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature (cooling fan comes on).

Fig. 38 Throttle Stop And Synchronization Screws:

3. Raise the engine speed to 3,000 rpm by turning the throttle stop screw and note the vacuum gauge reading.
4. While the engine speed is at 3,000 rpm, pinch the smooth red vacuum hose under the choke housing and note the vacuum reading.
5. If the vacuum gauge reading did not change, the carburetors are properly synchronized. If the readings were different, adjust the synchronization screw until they are the same.
6. Remove the tachometer and the vacuum gauge and reconnect the "purge" hose to the canister.
7. Reset the idle speed (see IDLE SPEED).
