Fuel Pump: Testing and Inspection
Fig. 3 Fuel Cut-Off Relay Location:
1. With ignition off, remove underdash cover and pull down the fuse box/relay panel.
Fuel Cut-Off Relay Socket Identification:
2. Remove fuel cut-off relay from fuse box.
3. Using a test wire jumper between socket terminals 1 & 2.
Fuel Pressure Testing:
4. Disconnect fuel line at fuel filter in the engine compartment and connect a fuel pressure gauge to the line as shown.
5. Turn key on and allow pressure to stabilize.
Expected result:
1.3 - 2.1 psi (8.8 - 14.7 kPa). If OK continue. If not OK, check fuel filters and lines before replacing pump.
Fuel Volume Testing:
6. With ignition off, remove pressure gauge and put hose into a graduated container.
7. Turn ignition on for 60 seconds. Turn ignition off.
Expected result:
At least 20 oz. (600 cc) in 60 seconds. If OK continue. If not OK, check fuel filters and lines before replacing pump.
8. If fuel pump did not run at all, continue.
Fuel Pump Testing:
9. Remove left maintenance access cover in luggage compartment.
10. Disconnect electrical connector. Check voltage across harness terminals.
11. If voltage is present, fuel pump is defective and must be replaced. If voltage is not present, refer to CHASSIS ELECTRICAL DIAGRAMS for further information.
