Wheel Hub: Service and Repair

Front Suspension:





1. Remove spindle nut locking device, then loosen spindle nut.
2. Loosen wheel lug nuts.
3. Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove front wheels and spindle nut.

Brake Caliper Bolts:





4. Remove caliper and wire aside. Do not allow caliper assembly to hang from brake hose.
5. Remove grease or dirt from ball joint.
6. Remove tie rod end cotter pin and nut.
7. Remove tie rod end using tool number 07MAC-SL00200 (28 mm) or equivalent.
8. Remove lower ball joint cotter pin, then loosen ball joint nut half way.
9. Using a suitable jawed puller, separate ball joint and lower arm. Be careful not to damage ball joint boot.
10. Remove upper ball joint shield, then cotter pin and nut.
11. Separate upper ball joint from upper arm using tool number 07MAC-SL00200 (28 mm) or equivalent.

Axle Shaft:





12. Remove steering knuckle and hub assembly by sliding off driveshaft.

Front Hub:





13. Remove bolts securing steering knuckle to hub and remove hub.

Splash Guard:





14. Remove splash guard to knuckle attaching screw, then the splash guard.

Front Hub / Brake Disc:





15. Remove bolts securing brake disc to hub and remove hub.

Front Hub Bearing - Removal:





16. Using a suitable special tools and hydraulic press, separate wheel bearing from hub. Factory tool numbers are 07GAF-SD40700 and 07GAF-SE00100.

Outer Bearing Race - Removal:





17. Use suitable bearing puller to remove outer bearing race.

Fitting Front Hub Bearing:





18. Clean components and press new bearing onto hub.

Front Hub / Brake Disc:





19. Refit hub to brake disc. Torque bolts to:

40 lb ft (55 Nm).

Splash Guard:





20. Refit splash guard. Torque bolts to:

7 lb ft (10 Nm)

Front Hub:





21. Refit knuckle to hub. Torque bolts to:

33 lb ft (45 Nm)

Reverse steps 1 - 12 to refit. Be sure to stake the spindle nut to spindle. Refer to image for torque specifications.
