Trailing Arm: Service and Repair

1. On 2wd models, raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove rear wheel and brake drum.
2. On 4wd models, pry spindle nut stake away from spindle, then loosen nut using a 32mm socket. Loosen wheel lugs slightly, then raise and support rear of vehicle. Remove wheel, brake drum and spindle nut.
3. On all models, remove parking brake cable from backing plate using a 12mm offset wrench.
4. Using a 10mm flare nut wrench, disconnect brake hose from brake hydraulic pipe.

5. Support lower arm with a floor jack, then remove trailing arm bushing mounting bolt Fig. 11.
6. On 4WD models, pull trailing arm and remove rear driveshaft outboard joint from trailing arm using a two-jaw puller.
7. On all models, remove trailing arm assemble.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. All bolts and nuts should be torqued to specification with vehicle on the ground.
b. Bleed brake system.
c. Adjust parking brake as described in BRAKES/DISC AND DRUM BRAKE SYSTEM/ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
d. Adjust rear toe.
