Ignition Timing: Adjustments
1. Remove the rubber cap from the inspection window in the engine block.
2. Start engine and run to operating temperature (cooling fan comes on).
Service Check Connector:
3. Connect the orange/red and green/white wires of the blue service check connector with a jumper wire. The blue service check connector is located on passenger side under the dashboard.
4. Connect a timing light while engine is idling.
5. Check timing at the flywheel mark.
Timing Mark:
6. Ignition timing should be:
M/T: 15° +/- 2 BTDC (RED) at 750 +/- 50 rpm
A/T: 15° +/- 2 BTDC (RED) at 750 +/- 50 rpm (neutral)
Distributor Adjustment:
7. Adjust timing as necessary by loosening the three hold-down bolts and turning the distributor.
8. Remove the timing light and jumper wire from the service check connector. Reinstall the rubber cap into the inspection window in the engine block.
