Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disable coded theft protection system as described under Accessories and Optional Equipment / Antitheft and Alarm Systems / Service and Repair.2. Disarm airbag system as described under Air Bags and Seat Belts / Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems / Airbag System Disarming).
3. Disconnect battery ground and positive battery cables.
4. Remove radiator cap, then raise and support vehicle.
5. Remove front wheels and engine splash shield.
6. Drain coolant, transaxle fluid and engine oil.
7. Lower vehicle, then remove air flow tube.
8. Remove battery and battery tray, then disconnect battery cable and starter cable. When installing starter cable clamp, ensure stopper pawl is secure.
9. Relieve fuel pressure slowly, by loosening service bolt on fuel filter approximately one turn. Place a shop towel over fuel filter to prevent pressurized fuel from spaying over engine.
10. Remove fuel feed hose from fuel pipe.
11. Remove resistor electrical connector on left side of engine compartment.
12. Loosen throttle cable locknut, then pull cable end from bracket and accelerator linkage.
13. Disconnect engine electrical harness connectors and clamps on right side of engine compartment.
14. Remove power cable from underhood fuse/relay box.
15. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose and emission control vacuum tubes from intake manifold.
16. Disconnect electrical connector and vacuum tube, then remove cruise control actuator.
17. Remove engine ground cable on cylinder head.
18. Remove power steering belt and pump. Do not disconnect power steering hoses.
19. Remove A/C condenser fan shroud, then install a protector plate on radiator.
20. Remove A/C belt and compressor. Do not disconnect A/C hoses.
21. Disconnect radiator and heater hoses.
22. On models with automatic transaxles, remove transaxle ground cable and ATF cooler lines.
23. On models with manual transaxles, remove shift and select cable.
24. Remove clutch slave cylinder and pipe/hose assembly.
25. On all models, remove speed sensor. Do not disconnect hoses.
26. Raise and support vehicle, then remove exhaust pipe and stay.
27. On models with automatic transaxles, remove shift cable at transaxle.
28. On all models, remove damper fork, then disconnect suspension lower arm ball joint, refer to Steering and Suspension / Suspension.
29. Remove driveshafts, then move driveshaft under fender.
30. Lower vehicle.
31. Attach suitable engine lifting equipment, then remove rear mounting bracket.
32. Remove front mounting bracket, then remove transaxle mount and bracket.
33. Raise hoist just enough to remove slack from chain. Ensure engine is free of hoses and electrical connectors.
34. Remove engine from vehicle.

35. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Refer to Fig. 5 for engine mount torque specifications.
b. After refilling cooling system, bleed air from cooling system at bleed bolt with heater valve open.
c. Adjust all control cables as required.
d. Rearm airbag and restore coded theft protection system.
