Transmission

1. If radio is equipped with theft protection circuit. Get customer's code number before disconnecting battery.
2. Disconnect both battery cables from battery, then remove set plate and battery.
3. Drain transaxle fluid, then remove air cleaner assembly.
4. Disconnect connector from vacuum tank, then remove vacuum tank and bracket. Do not remove vacuum tube from tank.
5. Disconnect ground cable from transaxle and body, then remove battery base and ground cable.
6. Remove battery base stay, then disconnect lockup control and shift control solenoid connectors.
7. Disconnect throttle control cable from lever, then NM speed sensor connector.
8. Remove cooler hoses at joint pips, then the starter motor cable.
9. Disconnect NC speed sensor connector, then remove rear stiffener.
10. Remove speedometer sensor. Do not disconnect power steering hoses from sensor.
11. Remove transaxle housing mounting bolts, then loosen front engine mount bracket bolts.
12. Remove transaxle mount, then the splash shield.
13. Remove center beam and rear beam stiffener, then separate ball joints from lower arms.
14. Remove left damper (strut) fork bolts, then separate damper fork from damper.
15. Remove driveshafts. Cover ends of driveshafts.
16. Remove right damper (strut) fork bolts, then separate damper fork from damper.
17. Remove right radius rod, then the torque converter and control cable covers.
18. Remove lock bolt securing control lever, then the control cable and lever.
19. Remove drive plate bolts, then place jack under transaxle.
20. Raise transaxle just enough to take weight off mount.
21. Remove intake manifold stay, then the transaxle housing and rear engine mounting bolts.
22. Remove transaxle from vehicle.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
