Antitheft and Alarm Systems: Description and Operation
The security system has two modes, passive (automatic) and active (manual). In the manual mode, the alarm can only be armed or disarmed by the keyless remote control. The parking lights will flash once when arming and twice when disarming. Also, if the beep switch (under the left side of the instrument panel) is on, the horn will beep once when arming and twice when disarming.
In the automatic mode, the security system will arm itself about 20 seconds after you remove the key from the ignition switch and close the last door or the trunk/tailgate. The parking lights will then flash once to confirm that the system is armed. Also, the horn will beep once if the beep switch is on. To disarm the system, use the keyless remote or insert the key in the ignition, turn the ignition ON and pull the disarm switch (under the left side of the instrument panel). In the automatic mode, the system has an entry delay time of about 15 seconds. If the system was armed with the keyless remote (manual mode), there is no entry delay time, and the alarm will activate if the door is opened without disarming the system.
The alarm will activate when any of the doors or the trunk/tailgate open or, a window breaks.
Wagon security systems have a relock feature. If the system is disarmed and the doors are not opened within 10 seconds, the system will relock the doors and arm the system.
