Keyless Entry: Description and Operation

USA Wagon EX, Canada Wagon EX-R

(Factory Installed)

The keyless entry system works the same way as the power door lock system, with the addition of the remote sensors and key recharger. The remote control key emits an infrared signal which is received by either the driver's door remote sensor or tailgate remote sensor (within three feet). The sensor then sends a signal to the power door lock control unit, unlocking or locking the doors.

The battery within the remote control key is recharged automatically whenever the key is in the ignition and turned to the "ON" position.

(Dealer Installed)

The keyless entry system is designed to operate at a distance of less than 50 feet from the transmitter (distance may vary with conditions). Battery voltage is supplied at all times through fuse 19 and the keyless entry fuse to the keyless entry control unit. The control unit is grounded at G4Oi.

The keyless entry control unit locks or unlocks the doors and simultaneously arms or disarms the security system upon receiving an arm/disarm signal. When the panic signal is received from the transmitter, the security alarm will go off (the horns will sound, and the lights will flash).

To keep you from accidentally unlocking the doors and leaving them unlocked, the keyless entry control unit will lock the doors automatically within 10 seconds of receiving an unlock signal if the driver's door is not open, and the key is not in the ignition switch.
