Premature Tire Wear
(Supersedes 93-029, dated August 6, 1993)

PROBLEM

Premature or irregular tire wear on the front or rear tires.

VEHICLES AFFECTED

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace or rotate the tires, and reset the front toe.

Customer Information

Explain to the customer the importance of maintaining correct tire pressure and following the inspection interval (once a month), as stated in the Owner's Manual. In addition, rotating the tires in the pattern shown further minimizes uneven tire wear. This rotation pattern supersedes the information in the Owner's Manual.

1. Inspect the tires, and replace them if necessary. If the tires are replaced, proceed to step 3. If the tires are serviceable, continue with step 2.

2. Rotate the tires using the pattern shown.

3. Adjust the tire pressure to the specifications listed. (The tire pressure can also be found on the tire information label inside the glove box.)

4. Tighten the sub-frame (rear beam) bolts and the lower control arm bolt, on both sides, to specified torque values.

5. Set the front toe to +3 mm (toe-in).
